Temporary Homeless

On the way to our tour bus, I passed this homeless man sleeping.

I had hesitated taking the photograph because I felt like I was invading his privacy.

I snapped it with intention of showing the current conditions in Puerto Rico.

Homelessness was extremely prevalent years before the disastrous Hurricane Maria.

It’s extremely worse now.

On my way back to the cruise ship, I passed the same location in hopes that the man would be awake

and I could give him some money for a bite to eat. He was gone. This mattress was in his location.

Perhaps, that night, he would be having a better nights sleep.

I find the photos a poignant reminders how fragile life is each time I view them.

    • Oh dear, dear Elizabeth,

No, I am here in my sunny Florida. The photographs were taken 2 years ago when I was on a cruise that had a port stop in Puerto Rico. I don’t think it’s a good idea to travel to Puerto Rico or any islands right now. There’s no water, electricity (unless you have a generator and gas to run it) food, sanitation or any small necessities.
I was trying to show that poverty was there before the Hurricane.

      Thanks for the dialog …
      Issy 😎

    • So true, dear friend, so true. You can’t imagine how I appreciate my blessings. When I post (when I can write about it without stress) about my experience with Hurricane Irma, you’ll be able to understand why I’m so grateful. Thanks, Gilly … have a wonderful weekend. Blessings … 🙏🏻
