Prolific Colorful Art
A prolific sky, filled with white fluffy clouds, welcomed me to the artfully colorful islet of Matlacha.
A short one hour drive from my home is the charmingly quaint little island.
Ablaze with dazzling, colorful shops is the best description for this island of about 735 residents.
An old Florida fishing village, the tiny town of Matlacha (MAT-luh-shay), is an islet west of Fort Myers.
Boutiques, art galleries and seafood restaurants bedeck main street. It’s traditional Florida cottages retain the charm of a quiet fishing village.
Leoma Lovegrove, local artist in residence, should be elected the queen of color. Her home is as colorful as her gallery.
In the rear of her gallery is a gazebo for you to enjoy a short respite after you’ve viewed her gallery.
There is an abundance of outdoor art offerings you to view as well.
She showcases other artists in addition to her masterful works.
She does little to hide that she is a huge fan of the Beatles.
She pays homage to them in some of her paintings and by playing their music inside and outside the gallery.
Leoma Lovegrove, an impressionist-expressionist painter known worldwide for her colorful artistic depictions of flora and fauna calls Matlacha Island, Florida her home. It’s here that she’s inspired within her own waterfront gallery and gardens, where she greets thousands of visitors each year. Leoma’s contagious love of Florida has been instrumental in encouraging tourism to the state.
Her works are on display in galleries throughout the world and are in two Presidential libraries.
She was also honored at an artist’s reception at The White House given by First Lady, Laura Bush.
These are just a few of the reasons Bealls Department Stores has partnered with Leoma as their Florida Artist.
Her Good-Day Sunshine collection created exclusively for Bealls is currently in stores statewide. ©info from web-site
When in the Fort Myers, Florida area, a day trip to this gallery and quaint town is worth a visit.
Hope you’ve enjoyed my quick road trip to Matlacha.

What a lovely place she’s created. I couldn’t think what she was doing with that canvass and then the eagle just appears 🙂

She’s one of the most creative artists I’ve seen here in Florida. I have some of her clothing. You can’t help but smile while wearing the bright colors. She has other videos. There’s one that shows the rear of her gallery and inside too. She was being interviewed by a blogger. Yes, the painting video is unbelievable. She dives right into the paints. It’s difficult to be that free. I’m happy you enjoyed this post, Gilly. Thanks … Have a Peaceful Sunday

There are quite a few video’s on You Tube. She’s incredible. I love the way she gets right into her paints. There’s like a connection she feels. I, too, could not figure out the image until she was finished. Thank you for commenting and for taking the time to view the video.
